Thermoformed Essix Retainer Models

Essix retainers are thin, clear molds that fit over the teeth, gently moving them in stages to the optimal position as determined by the orthodontist’s treatment plan. While these can be outsourced, a growing number of orthodontists are choosing to retain control of their cases and drastically lowering their costs as well as their wait time by producing these clear aligners in-house. Models for Hawley Retainers – E- SepFree

EnvisionTEC’s revolutionary E-SepFree is the only 3D printable dental model material available to print models for Hawley retainer production without needing to use a separator medium. Hawley retainers, also known as wire retainers, are removable retainers made with thin metal wire and an acrylic portion shaped to fit the roof of the mouth. The attached metal wire runs across the outside of the teeth to maintain alignment.

Traditionally Hawley retainers are made by adding acrylic polymer in layers on top of the model, gradually building up the plate to the desired dimensions. A separator medium is applied first, to allow for removal of the retainer from the model. Orthodontic labs and professionals are able to skip this step when using E-SepFree, as the soft material allows for easy removal of the retainer without the separator medium.
